Springtime Happenings

Bruce and I just got done a few days ago doing SERVS, which is oil spill training here in Cordova. We both worked as crew members on someone else's boat. Bruce was on the Liahona, his uncle's boat, which is a bowpicker, similar to Bruce's. I worked on the Kanak, which is a Seiner. They have a crew of 4 and are bigger than the bowpickers. We are trained how to use the different types of equipment that they have to clean up oil spills, just in case we have another big spill like the one in Valdez 20 years ago. The fishing has never been the same in some areas. So, each year they train us and we get paid to be trained. I am on the Core Fleet, which are first responders. Bruce is basically a second responder. He is currently trying to get his boat on the fleet as well and would like to be on the Core Fleet since we are living here full time now.

I just finished up our City League Volleyball last night too. I didn't start until 3 weeks ago, but I've had a blast. It's been a few years since I played good volleyball. Then again, it's been a few years since I wasn't pregnant and trying to play.

Olivia only has 1 more week of school and she's out for the summer. Dakota goes until the 21st. We are excited for this summer. Bruce starts fishing on the 14th. His boat is nearly ready to go in the water. We will do that when he gets back home. He is in Dubois right now. We sold our airplane --- FINALLY! We have had it for sale since August. The new owners picked it up this morning. We are all a little sad to see it go, but know that it's for the best right now. It would have just sat in our hangar for the next several years and we hate to see it do that. So, of course, he is already searching for his next one. He is looking for a Super Cub with floats so that we can park it at our cabin up here. We put in posts for a dock last week.

The weather has been gorgeous the past several weeks. I can tell already that it will be a better summer than last year. It was very cold and wet last year. We're hoping for a few more days of sunshine this year. Of course, it's raining today, but it's the first rain we've had in over a week. That doesn't happen much around here.

Bruce's river boat is nearly done. It just has a few more cables to put on and then we're ready to put it in the water. I may actually get to go out on the lake this year! This will be our 3rd summer up here and I've never been out on the lake. Sad, really!

Dakota starts T-ball next week. He's very excited and so am I. It's brings so much joy to be able to watch my kids participate in different activities and see them learn and grow.

Well, that's us in a nutshell. Maybe I'll have some pictures next time. Oh, I added a link at the bottom of the page. It's a really great song on what it means to be an American. You have to scroll down to the bottom and push play to hear it, but it's worth the listen if you haven't already heard it. And, if you have, listen again, it's worth it again. Enjoy!
